Finals Day #1: LBB1042 Academic Writing.

whoever thought Academic Writing a.k.a. English could be so disastrous?

to beloved Mr. Razol: I am so sorry for being so blind thus missing out the 'TITLE' space.

All hail Professor Vladimir Piven.

"Well I'm glad that there is another sane person like me who actually is not in denial and knows that obloodychem is freaking hard and the chances of doing well in it is as slim as Megan Fox."

The fruit of my labour.

let me start with a simple equation: sleep = life.
which comes to the point that I actually sacrificed my precious life for this:

the Academic Writing research paper (actually it's our final assignment but research paper sounds cooler so yeah).
what was supposed to be a 11- to 15-page assignment turned out to be a 60-page research paper.
all done in the course of one month.
(note: we were not last minute.)

Nostalgia.

last night was yet another sleepless night for me.
thanks to the Academic Writing research paper.
sigh.
it's not like we want to be last minute; we always seem to discover mistakes last minute.
and I, being the perfectionist in my group, can spend ages editing and modifying the language and data repeatedly while compiling the whole paper.

staying up all night like this always brings my mind back to study week in Foundation 1 when BOY and I used to go to IRC to study.
there was one night during study week, we talked on the phone for six hours straight.
we did not sleep at all.
come morning, we went to USM café to have roti canai for breakfast.
after that, we headed to IRC as soon as it opened.
we went to the closed carrel, took out our books and started studying.
and that was the cue for us to - simultaneously - drift off to sleep on the table.
then we would wake each other up and force one another to study.
and I would whine, whine and whine all day and refuse to study.
and BOY would have to constantly talk me into studying Physics and Chemistry and all.
ah... memories.

Penstache.

so there's this game going on on Facebook.
it is called Penstache.
I have been tagged five times by five different people.
it was not until Marcie tagged me that I decided to play it too.

rules are:
1. Take any pen.
2. Place it horizontally under your nose and above your lips.
3. POUT and take a damn picture, upload in Facebook and tag anyone randomly.

I had fun playing this game.
=D

my huge eyes.

shutter mode.
ok, no.
just random photos put together to look like they were taken in shutter mode.
there is no shutter mode on my webcam.
=="'

final photo posted on Facebook.
I look like I'm looking over at mommie Bel's side of the room to check if she's looking at me or not.
haha.
Marcie graded me 1 out of 100 marks for the unintentional bitchy face.
Sam says I look adorable.
"like the piggy-piggy I saw on the farm in NZ".

UTP July 2008 Batch Facebook Group.

frankly speaking, this group is meant for Year 1 Semester 1 students as of July 2009.
as in, July 2008 intakes who will be graduating in August 2013.

the main objective of the group is to keep group members informed and updated of every single event and activity being organised in UTP.
to be honest, I have been hearing comments - mostly from seniors - regarding the participation of our batch in some events/activities (I won't mention which ones).
being rumoured as having the most students UTP has ever gotten in a single intake, people expect a lot from the July 2008 batch.
yes, there are cases whereby the Year 1 Semester 1 students seem to dominate an organisation or event.
one very obvious example is the Talent Search 2009.
there were two departments consisting only of Year 1 Semester 1 students.
another example is the Book Expo scheduled for July 2010.

however, there are other events whereby high committees expect more participation from Year 1 Semester 1 students but fail to achieve to target.
why is that so?
well, you can't escape the fact that some just could not be bothered to join/are just not interested in those events.
but when I ask around, I usually get these answers: "eh, I didn't know about it wor.", "since when got this kind of event one?" and "how come no one told me about it?".

this may be due to poor promotion and publication; the pasting of posters, to be exact.
from what I observe, the most informative noticeboard (always full of posters notifying students about events/activities/committee recruitments) is the one located at V2C, next to the surau.
the one in front of the V2C common room isn't too bad, either.
problem: most students staying in the new villages rarely pass by that area; majority only walk to and fro the Academic Complex.

anyway, my point is, the Facebook group will be used as a medium to pass on information and updates regarding any event/activity.

I can't choose a representative from each club to admin so I am thinking of selecting one member from each course as an administrator for the group.
so anyone who wants to send messages to all group members or edit the group's content can contact any one of the eight administrators you feel comfortable dealing with.
regular members, what you do is post everything about your event/activity together with its poster on the wall for everyone to see.
you can also post anything related to studies or UTP in general.
I really hope this helps in our journey in striving to be well-rounded students.
Photobucket
p.s. anyone who wants to organise batch gatherings or anything similar (I know it's impossible to gather everyone but whatever lah can try right) can leave suggestions on the wall too.
=)
